A member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Senator Abdul Ningi, has disclosed that Rivers State Governor, Siminalaya Fubara, was about to leave the party but for their intervention.

Senator Abdul Ningi said the visit of the BOT reconciliation committee gave the party the opportunity to discuss with the Rivers State governor to understand what his grievances are.

He said the PDP was committed to closing the gaps in the party to ensure unity of the party and one aspiration.

Speaking in an interview on Arise TV, on Wednesday, Ningi said the BOT is the conscience of the PDP and is well-placed to undertake the journey of uniting all worried political actors.

It is a good omen that there are reconciliation committees in place, but you need to understand the mindset.

“I recall yesterday (Tuesday) we went to Rivers to have an audience with the Governor, audience so that we have for the first time we were talking to him face to face.

“You look at the constitution, the BOT is a conscience of the party. The BOT takes the assets and liability of the party. The BOT is well placed, in a well positioned to be able to undertake such ventures,” Senator Ningi said on the capacity of BOT in settling the party’s internal issues.

Giving an account of BOT’s meeting with Governor Fubara, Ningi continued, “We went to Rivers, we had about 2 -3 hours session with the Governor and we understood where he was coming from. And part of our reservations is the information filtering around.

“First, here you have a sitting PDP Governor who wants to leave the party and that really disturbs us. And we reached out to him, first of all he confirmed to us that he will remain in the party.

“That he is a wonderful member of the party and that he recalls that he was a member of the party as far back as 2005. And we sat down with him, we understand the issues. and we understand his problems, even before we went there. No member of Nigerian political class will tell you that he does not understand what is going on in Rivers.

“We came back. We came back with all the information we gathered together. But we are not bringing this information into the public domain because part of the crisis has to do with the current Minister of the FCT. As a BOT member what we need is unity, coming together for the same aspiration.

When we were in Port Harcourt, we also tried to understand the irreducible minimum that the governor can give the party to survive in the state.”
